Stop Grocery Circulars and Coupon Mailers

Find the publisher before contacting the grocery store. Weekly ad bundles are often distributed by Save.com, Valpak, or a local route-mail company rather than by the stores pictured inside.

Keep one complete circular instead of separating the store ads. The publisher or distributor is usually named on the outer wrap, address panel, back page, or fine print. That company controls delivery. A supermarket shown inside may have supplied an advertisement without maintaining the mailing list.

Start with the name on the address panel

  1. Keep the outside pages. Look for a publisher name, website, phone number, delivery code, or privacy notice near the mailing label.
  2. Copy the address exactly. Include an apartment, suite, directional abbreviation, and ZIP Code as printed.
  3. Use the distributor's official removal route. Ask to suppress the complete delivery address from future postal advertising.
  4. Save the confirmation date. Weekly bundles can be prepared before a request reaches the mailing file, so another issue may already be in production.

Do not send a separate request to every store advertised in the packet unless a store also sends its own individually addressed mail. One distributor request is usually the right first step for a bundled circular.

If the packet says Save, RedPlum, or RetailMeNot Everyday

Those names have been used for versions of the same weekly advertising program. The current Save.com Manage Mailings and Data page directs consumers to its privacy request. Save.com's official FAQ says completing that request removes the address from the Save mailing list and that prepared mail can take up to six weeks to stop.

Use our Save.com removal guide for the exact sequence and follow-up route. The request applies to the Save mailer, not every unrelated coupon packet delivered in the neighborhood.

If it is a Valpak envelope

The familiar blue Valpak envelope has its own official address-removal form. Enter the full delivery address and include the apartment or suite. Keep the confirmation so you can distinguish a delayed mailing from a request that did not match the address record.

Stopping Valpak does not stop Save.com, a store's own loyalty mail, or a local advertiser using another distribution company. See our Valpak guide for those boundaries.

Why Postal Customer mail is different

Some circulars are not sent from a list of names. The USPS Every Door Direct Mail page explains that advertisers can select carrier routes and address pieces simply to Postal Customer. USPS also instructs mailers to place a requested address in the Do Not Deliver Address column when preparing EDDM bundles.

That means the advertiser or distributor, not a national USPS unsubscribe list, is the useful contact. Ask the company printed on the piece to exclude your address from future route mailings. The company may be able to honor the request for its own campaigns, but it cannot block unrelated advertisers from selecting the same route.

If the circular has no mailing label

A loose flyer may have been delivered as route mail, inserted into a newspaper, or left by a private delivery service. Check the smallest print on both sides for a publisher, distribution phone number, franchise location, or web address. Contact that organization and describe the publication, delivery address, and date received.

If the piece appears to have been delivered to the wrong address, compare nearby house numbers before submitting a removal request. A delivery mistake is different from a correctly addressed advertising campaign.

Where a photo helps

Photograph the outer wrap or address panel, not a pile of separated store inserts. The useful image shows the distributor name, full delivery label, and any source code in one readable frame. Junk Mail Magic can use that evidence to identify the sender and prepare a focused request.

One request cannot remove an address from every future neighborhood campaign. If another publisher appears later, treat it as a separate sender. Our photo guide shows what to keep in frame.
