Close postal promotions after a wedding registry
A notice that your registry is complete does not tell you whether catalogs will keep coming. Newlywed catalogs and sale cards are marketing, so they need their own request to the retailer that sent them. Write to that sender, ask it to stop mailed promotions, and say plainly that you want to keep order and return records.
Separate the registry from the sales mail
- Sort what has arrived into two piles. One pile holds registry messages, such as a completion notice or gift summary. The other holds sales pieces, such as catalogs, coupons and newlywed offers.
- Take the sender name and return address from one of the sales pieces. On the retailer's official website, look for contact or communication preferences, and check whether any setting names postal mail rather than only email.
- Ask the retailer to stop mailed promotions. Name the order, delivery or return records tied to gifts or purchases that you want kept.
- Each adult named on a mailing sends their own request. Do not send one for a spouse or anyone else who has not agreed.
What the registry status does not change
Closing or fulfilling a registry may end gift tracking without changing your marketing preferences. Ask whether the postal marketing choice is separate from the registry account. An email unsubscribe may not cover paper mail, and a paper request may not cover email. Read the preference as written, or ask the retailer which channel your request changed.

Check the next catalog against your note
When the next catalog or card arrives, compare the sender, address and mailing name with the request you saved. If the same retailer is still mailing, send a short follow-up that quotes your first request and asks it to check the record. Ask that retailer how long changes usually take rather than assuming a set wait.
