Reduce wedding-related promotional mail

Venue tours, vendor inquiries, and registry signups each give a new company your address. After the wedding, the advertising that follows is easier to handle one sender at a time.

How to work through post-wedding promotional mail

  1. Separate advertising from vendor invoices, thank-you responses, and order confirmations that are still arriving. Keep anything with an order number or vendor reference.
  2. Sort the advertising by type: retail stores, wedding services, honeymoon and travel companies, and general lifestyle advertisers. Working in batches makes the pile manageable.
  3. Photograph each piece you want to stop separately, with the mailing label and sender name readable. Review the prepared details, sign in, and submit each photo as its own request. A store and a service vendor from the same event are usually separate senders.
  4. Set aside pieces from vendors you may want to hear from again. You can act on them later.

When you are unsure who sent it

Some advertising comes from companies that got your details through a vendor you hired, so the piece may look familiar but carry a different company name. Read the mailing label carefully. If you have an open order or active account with the sender, contact that company directly before submitting. A removal request does not cancel a contract or a delivery.

Allow a few weeks

Mailings are prepared before they arrive, so some advertising may still show up after you submit. You can submit requests over several sessions. For other options, read the main junk mail guide.

Instructions for the next step

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?

Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
