Check postal choices when claiming a rebate
Read the rebate's actual terms before deciding which fields to fill in. List the information required for the claim and identify any separately optional marketing choices. Decline the optional promotions you do not want. If the form links marketing consent to eligibility or leaves the distinction unclear, ask the rebate administrator before submitting.
Work through the claim form
- Read the rebate terms for the documents and details they require, such as a copy of the receipt or a product code. Copy that list onto your worksheet.
- Number each field on the claim form. Mark each one as required by the terms, labeled required on the form, or not stated.
- Find the marketing choices. Note whether they are pre-checked, whether they cover mail, email or both, and whether the form labels them optional.
- Complete the required items and set the optional choices the way you want them. If any wording is unclear, ask the rebate administrator before you submit.
- Keep a copy of the completed form and any confirmation, including how you answered the marketing boxes.
If a promotion arrives later
A claim alone does not explain why a particular piece reached you, so do not assume the cause. Check the sender and the address on the piece, then ask that sender to stop postal marketing. Mention the rebate only as background.
Write the request so it plainly concerns promotions only, and no one mistakes it for withdrawing the claim or stopping a payment you are waiting for. If you cannot tell which mail relates to the rebate, ask the administrator.

Use your copy to follow up
If the manufacturer or administrator later mails a promotion, quote your saved form and the box you left unchecked. That gives the company a specific record to look up and keeps your request separate from the rebate payment.
