Review marketing choices on a product registration
A registration form can combine details the manufacturer asks for to register the product with optional boxes about marketing. Read the warranty and the form, then note which fields are which before you submit or change anything. Coverage varies, so check the warranty terms for what registration is for.
Sort the form before you submit
- Read what the product's warranty says about registration. Note whether it calls registration required or optional, or does not mention it.
- Open the registration form and list each field. Mark every item about offers, newsletters, partners or mailed promotions.
- Check whether any marketing boxes are pre-checked and whether the form labels them separately from required fields. A box is not required just because it sits next to a required field.
- Submit what the warranty and form call for, and set the optional marketing choices the way you want them.
- If you already registered and promotions have arrived, ask the manufacturer through its official site to stop postal promotions to the registered address.
Let the terms decide, not the layout
The FTC advises reading the actual warranty and registration requirements because coverage varies. The terms, not the page layout, tell you whether something is needed. If the form does not say which fields are optional, ask the manufacturer before you submit.
If you later ask to stop promotions, say the request concerns marketing only. Ask the company to confirm that your registration record and any safety or recall notices will continue.

Keep a record of what you chose
Note the product, the registration date and how you set each marketing choice. If promotions arrive later, quote that note when you contact the manufacturer.
