Handle advertising for a franchise location

A franchise location receives advertising addressed to its own street address. A removal request for that address is a local action. It covers only your location and does not claim authority on behalf of the franchisor or other locations.

Steps to reduce advertising at your franchise location

  1. Confirm that the advertising is addressed to your location's address or to a name tied to your location. Advertising for another location is not yours to act on, even under the same brand.
  2. Check whether your franchise agreement or the franchisor's operations guidelines say anything about incoming advertising. Some franchisors manage vendor relationships centrally and want locations to handle catalogs and supplier mail a certain way.
  3. For advertising outside any centrally managed supplier relationship, photograph the label so the sender name and your location's full address are visible, and submit each piece as a separate request.
  4. Leave alone mail from vendors whose relationship with your location the franchisor manages. A request about that mail could disrupt a supply arrangement you did not set up.

What local authority covers

A request from your location applies to the address on your label. It does not reach other locations under the brand, and it is not a corporate-level opt-out. If you want one sender to stop mailing every location, that request has to come from someone with authority at the franchisor or parent company.

Keep a record of what you submitted

Write down each sender and the date you submitted a request. Share the list with your location's manager so future staff know which senders have been handled.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?

Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
