Read a label with both a company and a person's name

When a label shows a business name and a personal name, the sender may have the record under either one. Copy both lines in the order printed and do not drop or reorder either.

Reading a combined business and personal label

  1. Copy both name lines in the order they are printed and note which line is the company and which is the person.
  2. Photograph the whole label so both name lines and the full address block are readable in one image.
  3. Confirm you are authorized to handle the mail before submitting anything for a business address. Mail addressed to a colleague or to the company in general is not yours to remove without that authority.
  4. Submit the photo through Junk Mail Magic with a note quoting both printed lines, and ask the sender whether the record is held under the business name, the personal name, or both.

Authorization and which record to target

A business address may receive mail for several employees and for the company itself. If the mail is addressed to you personally, you can ask to remove your own record. Anything addressed to someone else, or to the business as a whole, needs the right person to act on it. If you are unsure whose record it is, ask the sender which name it is filed under before asking for removal.

Ask the sender to name the record type

In your request, ask the sender to say whether the record is personal, business, or both. If it is a business record, confirm that you are the right person to ask for its removal before you follow up.
