Reduce age-based children’s product advertising

If baby-product catalogs keep arriving after your child has outgrown them, ask the retailer to stop that category and name any categories you still want. Say that the request covers promotions only, so your purchase and return records are not part of it.

Update the category, not the account

  1. Look through recent catalogs. Note the categories you no longer want, such as infant gear or diapers, and the ones you still use.
  2. Check the retailer's website for category or catalog preferences. If you find none, ask whether that choice exists.
  3. Write a request that names the catalogs to stop and asks whether the other categories can continue.
  4. Limit the request to marketing. Do not ask the retailer to close the account or delete order history you may need.

Category choices versus a full opt-out

Some senders can narrow a mailing by category. Others may offer only an on or off choice for all postal marketing. Ask which one this retailer offers. If it has only an all-or-nothing choice, decide whether the catalogs you still want are worth receiving along with the rest.

A category change should not require a child's identity documents. Each adult on the account sends their own request.

Sample category request

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.

Please stop mailing baby-product catalogs to [name as printed] at [mailing address]. I would like to keep receiving [categories I still want, or none]. Please leave my order and return records unchanged. This is a postal marketing request only. Please tell me whether you offer a category choice or only a full postal opt-out.

Compare the next catalog to the request

When the next mailing arrives, check whether the stopped category is gone and the kept ones still appear. If baby-product mail continues, send a short follow-up that quotes your first request. If the retailer says it has no category choice, decide whether to ask it to stop all postal marketing instead.
