Handle an address the opt-out form cannot find
An "address not found" error often means what you typed does not match the format in the sender's database. It does not prove you are unlisted. Adjusting the format may be all it takes.
How to resolve an address lookup failure
- Compare what you typed with the mailing label, word for word. Match abbreviations such as "St" versus "Street" or "Ave" versus "Avenue."
- If the form has separate fields for apartment, unit, or suite, move that part out of the street line and into its own field.
- If the form offers a search by ZIP code, try it. The results may show the format the sender's database expects.
- Do not select a neighbor's address from the results to get past the error. If nothing matches after you reformat, contact the sender's customer service.
When reformatting does not solve it
Compare the form's required fields with the label. Try the sender's suggested formatting, including any separate unit-number field. If the address still cannot be found, contact the sender with the exact label text and explain what the form returned. Ask which route it provides for a mailing record that the form cannot locate.
Record what you tried
Write down the exact error message and the formats you entered. Support staff can use that to help you. For routes that bypass the sender's form, see the comparison of postal opt-out options.
