Choose between paper and email newsletters
Some publishers offer both paper and email newsletters. Asking for one may not cancel the other, unless the publisher confirms that it does.
How to switch or confirm your newsletter format
- Contact the publisher by phone or email. Name the specific publication and say which format you want.
- Ask whether choosing email stops the paper copy, or whether you need to cancel print separately.
- Check that the email address on file is one you read, and correct it before the change takes effect.
- Ask for written confirmation and save it with the date. If paper keeps arriving or email never starts, you will have something to point to.
When a format change does not stick
Print and email subscriptions may be handled by different teams, so a request sent to one may not reach the other. If paper copies keep arriving after you switch to email, send a second request that asks specifically about the print record, and keep both confirmations.
Check that email arrives
After the switch, look in your spam and promotions folders for the first few issues. A paid subscription or a membership newsletter is different from unsolicited advertising, so confirm what you are changing before you cancel anything. If a paper newsletter is plain advertising you never asked for, see the comparison of postal opt-out options.
