Ask to keep a charity newsletter but stop appeals

Some charities can send you the newsletter without the appeals, and some cannot. Ask before assuming the two can be separated.

How to request newsletter-only status

  1. Find the donor services contact, often printed on the newsletter or appeal letter, and call or email to ask about updating your preferences.
  2. Ask whether its system supports a newsletter-only preference, and have the representative confirm the change is recorded.
  3. If it cannot separate the two, decide whether to stay on the full list for the newsletter or leave it entirely. Check whether the charity posts the newsletter on its website.
  4. If appeals continue after your request, photograph one ordinary appeal with the sender and your full mailing label visible and submit it to Junk Mail Magic. An authorized user should review the details first.

Not every charity can split mail types

Ask donor services whether it can keep the newsletter while stopping appeals. If the organization cannot separate those preferences, decide which matters more to you. Check whether a web or email edition would let you keep reading. Save the reply so you know exactly what change the organization agreed to make.

Check whether a digital version is available

If the charity cannot separate the two by mail, ask whether there is a digital newsletter. That may let you stay informed without the paper.
