Stop tourism brochures after a completed visit

Contact the organization named as the sender on the brochure and ask it to stop printed destination mail for your name and address. That might be a visitor bureau, a tourism board or a private publisher. Say the request covers marketing only, so it is not mistaken for a change to anything tied to your trip.

Find the sender behind the brochure

  1. Look past the destination's name and find the sender's. A town name on the cover does not tell you who mailed it. Look for a return address, a publisher line or a contact section.
  2. If the brochure lists only advertisers and no clear sender, look up the most likely organization's official website yourself instead of using a link printed on the mailer. If you can't tell who maintains the list, ask that organization whether it sent the mailing.
  3. Copy your name and address exactly as they appear on the label, including any misspelling or extra line, so the sender can match the record.
  4. Say the request is for printed marketing mail only. If you have a booking, loyalty account or membership connected to the destination, ask that it stay unchanged.
  5. Write down the date and the sender's name for your records.

Keep the trip separate from the request

A request to stop brochures should not cancel or edit a reservation, points balance or membership. Leave those accounts alone. If a mailer mentions an account or booking and you can't tell whether it is advertising, check it through a contact route you already have before replying, such as your confirmation email or the number on your booking record.

Sample brochure-mail request

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.

Please stop printed destination brochures and promotional mail addressed to [name exactly as printed] at [mailing address]. Sender shown on the mailing: [sender name] Publication or brochure title: [title] This request covers marketing mail only. Please leave any existing reservation, loyalty account or membership unchanged. If you need other details to find my record, please tell me which ones.

When another brochure arrives

Compare the sender and label with the request you already sent. If a different bureau or publisher sent it, contact that sender separately. If it is the same sender, reply to your earlier message and include the date you sent it. You can also ask the sender how long its list updates take, because each organization sets its own timing.
