Reduce promotional mail after arranging a funeral

Ask the provider sending the sales brochures to stop promotional mail. In the same request, say that receipts and letters about services already arranged should keep coming. Name the type of brochure you mean so the request stays narrow.

Narrow the request to sales mail

  1. Gather the brochures and note who sent each one. A funeral home, a cemetery, a monument seller and a florist can each be a separate sender.
  2. Set aside anything that may concern an actual contract, payment or scheduled service. Verify uncertain pieces through the provider you know before treating them as advertising.
  3. Find each provider's contact route through its official website, not through a number on an unfamiliar flyer.
  4. Ask each provider to stop the specific mailings you mean, such as pre-planning offers or product catalogs. Ask it to keep sending receipts and anything about arrangements already made.

Match the name on the brochure

A provider might mail the person who died, the person who made the arrangements, or both. Write about the name printed on the brochure in front of you. If both names get mail, mention each one in your request. A letter that looks like a bill or a legal notice should be checked with the sender. Don't treat it as a brochure.

Sample sales-mail request

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.

Please stop sending promotional brochures and offers to [name as printed] at [mailing address]. This includes [type of mailing, such as pre-planning or product offers]. Please continue to send receipts and any communications about services already arranged. Reference number, if printed: [number].

File replies with the receipts

Keep each provider's reply with that provider's receipts and contract papers, so you can see what you asked to stop next to what you asked to keep. If another brochure arrives, compare its name and mailing type with your request. Then reply to that provider with the earlier request quoted.
