Read mail preferences when registering for an event
An event form may include separate mail options for the organizer, for sponsors, and for partners. Each can mean a different sender and a different list, so skipping that part of the form can sign you up for several at once.
How to manage mail choices at registration
- Before you submit, scroll through the whole form. Mail options sometimes sit near the bottom or inside the terms.
- Read each checkbox and work out whether it covers the organizer, named sponsors, or a broad group of partners.
- Decline any option whose scope you cannot work out. You can ask for information later, but leaving a list is harder than not joining it.
- After you register, write down which organizations the form named as possible mailers, so you know where to turn if mail arrives.
What forms often leave vague
A sponsor option may say only industry partners and not name any company. In that case you cannot know which senders will get your address. If you are unsure, decline and contact the exhibitors you care about yourself. Some organizers may not offer a way to leave a sponsor list after the event, so ask before you register.
Deal with sponsor mail directly
If mail comes from a sponsor you did not mean to hear from, check the piece for the sender's own opt-out instructions. You can also photograph the sender name and your mailing label and submit it through Junk Mail Magic. Submit only mail that is addressed to you or that you are authorized to handle.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?
Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
