Handle customer mail after a DMAchoice registration
Ask the company directly to stop postal marketing. ANA’s DMAchoice FAQ says customer and donor mail is outside its prospect-mail suppression. Receiving a catalog from a store you use does not, by itself, mean your DMAchoice registration failed.
Write to each company you buy from
- Pull the advertising you received after registering and mark the pieces from companies where you have an account, a past purchase or a service. Leave statements and notices out of the pile.
- For each company, find its mail preference option, privacy or contact page, or customer service number. Check the piece first, then the company's site.
- Ask only for removal from postal marketing. List the mail you still need, such as statements, renewal notices or order confirmations, so the request is not mistaken for something larger.
- If you want to keep particular optional material, name it in the request. Ask the company whether it can separate those mailings from the promotions you want stopped.
- Ask each company what its request covers and when it expects the change to take effect, and record the answer.
Check the other channels separately
Read the actual confirmation to see which contact channels it covers. A postal preference may be separate from email or text, or a company may group several choices together. Keep a copy of the wording you selected. If the response says only “unsubscribed,” ask which mailings and which address it means.
Sample request from an existing customer
Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.
Follow up with the company's own answer
Next to each company's name, write the date you sent the request and any timeline the company gave you. If advertising continues past that point, contact the same channel again and quote your earlier request.

Choose the route that matches the mailing
Use the official route described in this guide for this kind of mail. For a separate ordinary advertisement, Junk Mail Magic can help prepare a sender-specific removal request.
