Make a free plan for contacting unwanted mail senders
You can start reducing unwanted advertising without buying a mail-removal service. Choose three senders and look for each company’s own postal preference or customer contact route. Use the worksheet to record the exact mailing you want stopped. If a route involves postage or a program fee, check that cost before choosing it.
Plan three requests
- Choose the three senders whose mail you most want to stop. Keep one piece from each so you can copy the name and address exactly as printed.
- Find each company's contact route on its official website. Do not use a phone number or address from a mailer you do not recognize.
- Name the specific mailing for each: catalogs, a charity appeal or promotions sent to you as a customer.
- Send the requests and record the date and route. If mail keeps arriving, write again and quote your first request.
Where a program fits
Ask the identified sender to stop its own advertising. This route is also useful for a store, bank or charity where you already have a relationship. Supply enough label detail to identify the promotional record, without including statements or identity documents.
If a third-party page asks for payment, pause and check the sender’s own site first. Some broader programs have legitimate registration fees, including DMAchoice. That does not mean you must purchase a service to send a company your own preference request.

Record replies and pick the next sender
Add each reply next to the sender's row. If a company states a processing time, record it as that company's statement. It does not apply to other senders. When the plan is filled in, choose the fourth sender from the mail still arriving.

Choose the route that matches the mailing
Use the official route described in this guide for this kind of mail. For a separate ordinary advertisement, Junk Mail Magic can help prepare a sender-specific removal request.
