Ask about marketing after an account is closed
Closing an account and stopping marketing are two different requests. A catalog may keep coming after the account is gone, so ask the retailer about both.
How to ask for marketing removal after closing an account
- Contact customer service and ask whether closing your account also removes you from catalog and promotional mailings, or whether that needs its own request.
- If mail still arrives, tell them your name and address exactly as they appear on a recent catalog or promotional piece. That helps them find the record.
- If you have a recent catalog or flyer, photograph the sender name and your full mailing label. Then submit a removal request for that mailer through Junk Mail Magic.
- Keep any written reply, with its date, in case mail keeps arriving and you need to follow up.
Why account and marketing records can differ
A retailer may handle accounts and marketing mail in different systems, so closing one may not change the other. Some retailers may ask for a separate request to stop direct mail. Ask which name and address on the label they need to match, and ask how long the change usually takes. Do not assume a time frame that the retailer has not given you.
Follow up if mail continues
If catalogs keep coming after you made a request, contact the retailer again and give the dates and methods of your earlier requests. For other options, see the comparison of postal opt-out options.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?
Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
