Stop Make-A-Wish Mail

Make-A-Wish's U.S. privacy policy directs communication-frequency and list-rental requests to headquarters. Ask for no paper fundraising appeals and, if desired, exclusion from future address rentals or exchanges. A newsletter email unsubscribe is not the same instruction.

Contact headquarters for the published preference

The Make-A-Wish privacy policy covers its U.S. organization and affiliated chapters. Its communication-preference section directs readers to headquarters. The policy links a privacy inquiry form with a Questions or Comments field.

Use that field to describe the mailing preference, not a new donation or wish referral. The current form includes contact and street-address fields. Read its prompts yourself before sending; this page neither fills the form nor stores your identity.

Use a written request for list rentals

The policy specifically allows removal from list rentals or exchanges by writing to the address it publishes: Make-A-Wish, 1702 E. Highland Avenue, Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016-4630. It also lists 1-800-722-9474, written as 1-800-722-WISH, for its headquarters contact.

Make two instructions explicit if you want both: stop the organization's own paper appeals, and exclude your name and address from future list rentals or exchanges. If you only want an occasional update, name your desired frequency and ask what schedule can be recorded.

A draft with independent choices

Delete a sentence if it requests a change you do not want. Copy the recipient details from the actual appeal rather than assuming your newsletter address identifies a postal record.

Please stop Make-A-Wish paper fundraising appeals for [name as printed] at [full mailing address, including unit and ZIP code]. The appeal identifies [chapter name and donor or mailing code, if shown]. Please also exclude this name and address from future direct-mail list rentals and exchanges. Please confirm the recorded paper-mail and sharing preferences, including whether another chapter record needs attention. This does not cancel a donation, request account deletion or change a wish referral.

Distinguish the chapter and the kind of message

A national appeal and a local chapter letter can identify different records. Include the name shown near the return address and any printed donor identifier. If headquarters refers you to a chapter, keep that reply and use the chapter contact it provides.

A tax receipt, donation question or communication about a wish you referred is not necessarily a fundraising appeal. Do not include a child's medical information, payment details or referral documents to explain a mailing-list change. For an unrelated service issue, use the relevant official team separately.

What the request does not establish

The policy describes limited-use rental or exchange through mailing agents. A future sharing opt-out does not prove that every outside organization has erased a record it already holds. Send separate requests to separate senders when their appeals arrive.

The cited policy gives no universal paper-mail stop deadline. Ask how much mail was already scheduled and what follow-up allowance applies. Save your request and reply, then compare any remaining piece against the recipient and chapter you originally identified.

Keep the chapter or headquarters name visible

Use the appeal to identify the sender, then contact the relevant Make-A-Wish team yourself. Do not include wish-referral or medical information.
