How to Stop Insurance Offers by Mail
Start by checking whether the insurance offer was prescreened. That tells you whether one official opt-out can reach the source list or whether you need to contact the sender.
Use OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-567-8688 to stop insurance offers based on prescreening lists from the major credit bureaus. For marketing from an insurer you already use, ask that company to suppress postal promotions while continuing policy and service mail.
Look for the prescreen notice
A prescreened insurance solicitation must include an opt-out notice. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule requires a short notice on the front of the principal promotional document and a longer section headed “PRESCREEN&OPT-OUT NOTICE.”
If the mailer has that notice, the offer was made using consumer-report information. If it does not, it may come from an existing customer relationship, a purchased marketing list, a professional association, or another source. OptOutPrescreen will not necessarily stop those mailings.
Opt out for five years or permanently
- Go directly to OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-567-8688.
- Choose the five-year electronic opt-out or begin the permanent opt-out process.
- For permanent removal, print, sign, and return the form generated by the official service.
- Keep the confirmation and allow time for offers prepared before the request to finish arriving.
The Federal Trade Commission explains that the major credit bureaus operate the site and phone number. The FTC also says opt-out requests are processed within five days, although prescreened offers may continue for several weeks because a company could already have received your information.
Complete sensitive identity checks only through the official service. Do not send a Social Security number, date of birth, credit report, or identity document to Junk Mail Magic or to a general customer-service email address.
Contact the insurer for other marketing
OptOutPrescreen covers offers built from the major credit bureaus' prescreening lists. It does not stop every mailing from an insurer, agent, affinity group, or company with which you already have a relationship.
For those promotions, use the customer-service number, privacy notice, or secure account channel on the insurer's official website. Ask to stop postal marketing at the exact name and address printed on the mailer. If the piece includes a source code or customer number, include it without sharing unrelated financial information.
Keep policy and claims mail
Do not treat a bill, cancellation notice, renewal packet, claim letter, proof-of-insurance document, privacy notice, or legally required disclosure as junk mail. Review the contents before requesting suppression. A marketing opt-out should not interrupt mail needed to maintain coverage or respond to a claim.
If the piece refers to Medicare or a private Medicare plan, follow the Medicare mail guide. Medicare notices and private plan advertising can look similar, but they should not be handled as the same thing.
Where Junk Mail Magic fits
Use OptOutPrescreen when the offer contains the prescreen notice. For a company-specific promotion, photograph one clear mailer so Junk Mail Magic can identify the sender and prepare a focused postal-marketing removal request. The app is not a substitute for canceling a policy, disputing a claim, or changing coverage.
