How to Stop Capital One Mail Offers
Most preapproved Capital One offers use credit-bureau prescreening. Opt out at the source, then contact Capital One separately if customer marketing continues.
Start with OptOutPrescreen
- Check the Capital One offer for language saying it is prescreened or preapproved.
- Go directly to OptOutPrescreen.com, the official credit-bureau opt-out service, or call 1-888-567-8688.
- Choose the five-year electronic opt-out or follow the instructions for a permanent request, which requires a signed form.
- Keep the confirmation and allow time for offers already prepared for mailing to arrive.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says this removes your name from prescreening lists supplied by Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis. It covers prescreened credit and insurance offers from Capital One and other issuers, not every kind of bank marketing.
If Capital One already does business with you
A bank can market to an existing or former customer without using a prescreening list. If promotional paper continues, contact Capital One through the number or secure support route shown on your statement or account. Ask to suppress postal marketing while keeping required account communications.
Capital One's U.S. Consumer Privacy Notice lists 1-888-817-2970 for updating certain information-sharing choices. Those choices may affect affiliate or nonaffiliate marketing, but they are not described as a universal stop-mail switch. State exactly that you want postal promotions stopped.
Do not discard account mail
Statements, replacement-card notices, fraud alerts, tax documents, servicing letters, and legally required disclosures are not ordinary marketing. A marketing opt-out should not stop them. Open or review mail tied to an account before recycling it.
If the envelope is for someone who no longer lives at your address, do not use that person's identity in OptOutPrescreen. Follow the previous-resident mail steps and contact the sender about the incorrect address.
Email preferences do not stop postal offers
Capital One has a separate marketing-email preference page. It changes email choices, not paper-mail prescreening. Use the channel that matches the unwanted communication instead of assuming one unsubscribe covers both.
Protect the information in the offer
Credit offers can contain invitation codes, partial account details, and personal information. Use official sites you navigate to directly. Do not send Junk Mail Magic a Social Security number, bank statement, card number, password, or completed credit application.
Where Junk Mail Magic fits
Use OptOutPrescreen for a prescreened offer because it reaches the source list. For other Capital One paper marketing, photograph one mailer so Junk Mail Magic can identify the sender and prepare a focused request from the printed details.
Have the mailer in front of you?
Photograph one piece of unwanted mail. We identify the sender and prepare the removal request. Your first request is free.
