Photograph an advertising window envelope
Advertising window envelopes combine plastic film and paper, so they can produce glare from two surfaces. The insert can also shift so the address no longer lines up with the window.
Getting a clear photo of the window area
- Before photographing, gently nudge the insert so the address shows fully through the window, then lay the envelope flat.
- Tilt the envelope slightly away from the light to reduce reflection off the plastic, and check the preview until the address behind the window is clear.
- Use soft, diffuse light instead of direct sun or a bare bulb, which cause sharp reflections on the plastic.
- Zoom into the photo and confirm every line of the label, including any unit number and the ZIP code, is readable.
What to photograph and what to leave out
Photograph only ordinary advertising mail. An envelope that holds a bill, a medical record, a financial document, or any other personal record should not be photographed for this purpose, and neither should anyone else's mail. If the insert has shifted and you cannot read the label without opening the envelope, check whether the sender name appears on the outside.
Keep the photo to the exterior
A clear shot of the outside, with the label visible through the window, is enough. Check it at full size once before you upload to confirm the sender and address lines are readable.
