Check whether a web form accepted your request

Clicking a submit button does not guarantee the sender received your request. Confirmation may arrive as a page change, an on-screen message, or an email, so know what to look for.

How to verify the form went through

  1. Look for a success message, reference number or clearly marked error on the form.
  2. Check the email account you supplied for an acknowledgment, including its spam folder.
  3. Record the date, the form URL and what happened. Save an error screenshot with personal information kept private.
  4. If receipt remains unclear, ask the sender's published support contact whether it received the request before submitting again.

Why resubmitting blindly backfires

A changed page address is not proof of success, and a form can submit without moving to a different page. Record an uncertain result as unconfirmed. Give the sender enough detail to check the attempt, then ask whether you should wait, repeat it or use another contact route.

Contact support if nothing confirms it

When you write or call, give the date, the approximate time, and the email address you used, and ask whether a record of your submission exists. That message also documents your attempt if the form has a technical problem.
