Check marketing choices on a store survey

Before you submit a store survey, read the wording beside every checkbox about offers, mailings or partners. Some surveys include a separate choice for promotional contact and some do not. Write down what the form says and leave optional sales choices unchecked if you do not want that mail.

Read the form before you hand it back

  1. Find every line that mentions offers, updates, promotions or sharing. Note whether each one is a checkbox, a box that is already filled in, or part of a longer sentence.
  2. Copy the exact consent wording, or note where the full text appears on the form. The paper card and the store's website may use different wording.
  3. Leave unwanted promotional boxes unchecked. Fill in only the contact fields the survey needs for its stated purpose, such as a prize entry or a follow-up call.
  4. If the form does not mention postal mail, ask the staff or the printed privacy contact whether a postal marketing choice exists and what it covers.
  5. Keep a copy of the completed survey and note the store location and date.

If store advertising arrives later

Check the sender name printed on the mailing and compare it with what you agreed to on the survey. Mail that arrives after a survey does not prove the survey caused it, so describe the piece and leave the cause out of your request.

Ask only for postal marketing to stop. Say which order, warranty or safety messages you want to keep.

Sample survey follow-up request

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.

I completed a customer survey at your [store location] store on [date]. Please stop printed promotional mail to [name as printed] at [mailing address]. Please tell me whether this request also covers partner or affiliate mailings. I want to keep receiving order, warranty and safety communications.

Compare form and mailing

Put the saved survey next to the mailing and note any differences in name or address spelling. Use the exact printed version in your request and send it through the store's official contact route. If the reply describes a different setting from the one you asked for, ask the store to state the postal choice it recorded.
