Ask whether a postal preference covers partner sharing
Asking a company to stop mailing you may not change whether it shares your information with partners. Ask about each one in its own numbered question. Then you can see which one the sender answered.
Ask the two questions
- Before you write, read the marketing choices section of the sender's privacy page on its official website. If it already describes a sharing choice, use that page's name for it in your question.
- Question one: will the sender stop its own postal marketing to the name and address you give?
- Question two: does it offer a separate choice about sharing your information with other companies for their marketing, and where do you set it?
- Ask whether the two choices are recorded together or separately. That tells you whether you need to submit one request or two.
If one answer is missing
Replies often confirm the mail stop and skip the sharing question. When that happens, quote your second question again and ask only that one. A preference form can also be limited to one brand or one channel, so read what the confirmation actually says.

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.
Act on the reply
If the sender offers a sharing choice, set it and save the confirmation text with the reply about the mail stop. If it says no sharing choice exists, ask which section of its policy describes sharing for marketing, then add that section to your records.
