Sort advertising for people with the same last name
People who share a last name often get advertising addressed in different ways: one by full name, one by initials, some with both names on one label. Those differences matter, so do not assume every piece is yours.
How to sort accurately
- Read the full name on each piece, including initials and any middle name.
- Set aside any piece where the recipient is unclear and ask the other person whether they recognize the sender.
- Have each person submit requests only for mail that names them.
- Note which name variants appear on your own mail so you can spot your pieces quickly in later deliveries.
Why variants matter
Compare the full labels, including initials and customer codes. Ask the other household member which mail they want to keep before requesting a change that might include them. In a direct request, quote the names you are authorized to handle and ask the sender to confirm which records the change covers.
When in doubt, ask
A quick question costs less than undoing a removal the other person did not want. Once you each know your own name variants, sorting goes fast. See the photo guide for the photo itself.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?
Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
