Stop prospect mail after enrolling elsewhere
Choosing a school does not automatically stop other colleges from mailing brochures. Write to the admissions office of each college that still sends them. Say the student has enrolled elsewhere, and ask the office to stop printed recruitment material. You do not need to close an account or withdraw anything to make this request.
Send a narrow request to each sender
- Sort the pile by college. From one brochure per school, copy the name and address exactly as printed, because spellings can differ between mailings.
- Find the admissions contact on the college's official website instead of using a number or link printed in the brochure. Check whether the site lists a preference for mailed material.
- Tell the office the student is now enrolled at another institution and ask to be removed from prospective-student mailings.
- Ask specifically about postal mail. An email unsubscribe may not cover printed brochures, so ask what the office will record for the mail it sends to the student's address.
- List each school you contacted and the date, so you can match any later brochure to your request.
Keep the request about marketing only
College Board says organizations that already have a student's information may keep contacting the student after a Student Search opt-out. It recommends contacting those organizations directly, which is what this request does. ACT Recruit Me is a separate voluntary program with its own opt-out form. ACT asks people registered with more than one physical or email address to submit each address.
Do not cancel test accounts, erase scores or change aid or application accounts to reduce marketing. A parent writing on the student's behalf should have the student approve each request.

Start with the heaviest senders
Write first to the colleges that send the most mail. Do not send this request to the school the student joined. Handle enrollment paperwork there through that school's usual channels.
