Review prescreen mail that still uses an old address
Start by writing down the exact name and address on the offer, then compare them with the details you gave the official prescreen service. A difference between the two tells you what to check next. It does not prove where the sender got your address.
Line up the two records
- Copy the name and address as printed, including middle initials, unit numbers and spelling. Leave out any reference or account numbers.
- Beside it, write the name and address you entered on the official service, or note that you do not remember.
- Check whether the offer says it is prescreened. A credit or insurance offer is not automatically prescreened, and the program covers only offers based on major credit-bureau lists.
- If it is prescreened and the label differs from your submission, read the official instructions for how to list a previous address before submitting again.
When the offer is not prescreened
An old label does not identify the mailing’s data source. A covered bureau-list offer and a company’s own customer-list promotion can use the same address. Read the offer’s prescreen explanation or ask the sender which source it used. If it is the sender’s own promotional record, request removal using the exact printed address.
Keep sensitive identifiers out of the comparison worksheet. Any identity details needed for an official service belong in that service’s process.

Decide the next request
Mark the specific unresolved question: whether the address in your request was correct, whether the offer was covered, or which sender record needs a direct request. Resolve that question before repeating the same submission.

Choose the route that matches the mailing
Use the official route described in this guide for this kind of mail. For a separate ordinary advertisement, Junk Mail Magic can help prepare a sender-specific removal request.
