Reduce credit-card processing sales mail

Ask the company that sent the mailer to stop its marketing mail, and state that you are not changing any existing merchant account. Use the contact route on the company's official website, and name the specific mailer, since several processors may be writing to you.

Aim the request at prospect mail only

  1. Read the mailer for the company name. If it also names a sales agent or reseller, record both names and check which company's official site matches the offer.
  2. Check whether this company is your current processor. If it is, say the request covers marketing only.
  3. Look on the company's official site for a contact page or marketing-preferences option for postal mail. Do not assume an opt-out form exists.
  4. Include the name and address as printed, plus any offer code or mailer title.
  5. Ask the company to confirm in writing what it will change.

Prospect mail versus account mail

A processor you already use may send both advertising and account communications. A marketing request can still reach that company, but it decides what continues, so ask it to confirm that service and account notices are unaffected.

Do not photograph statements, contracts or anything with account numbers. If an employee handles payments, have that person confirm which processor the business uses before the request goes out.

Sample prospect-mail request

Example for your own use. Replace the bracketed details and review what you share.

To [company name]: Please remove [business name] at [mailing address] from printed promotions for card-processing services. [Offer code or mailer title]. This concerns marketing mail only. [We are / We are not] a current customer, and I do not wish to change any existing service. Please confirm what change you will make.

Handle repeat mailers

Treat a mailer from a different processor as a separate sender with its own request. Keep a list of company names and request dates, and if the same company mails again, cite the earlier date in your follow-up.
