Correct an opt-out confirmation with the wrong address

A confirmation that shows an address that is not yours suggests the sender matched your request to a different record. The mail you receive may continue until the right record is updated.

How to correct the record

  1. Compare the address in the confirmation with the one printed on your mail piece. Note each difference, including spelling and any missing unit number.
  2. Contact the sender through customer service details from its website or the mail piece instead of resubmitting the same form.
  3. Give the exact address from your label and ask it to find and update the record tied to that address. Mention that your confirmation showed a different one.
  4. Ask for a corrected confirmation once the right record is updated.

Why resubmitting may not help

Sending the same form again may produce the same wrong match. A customer service representative can look up the record by hand. Avoid sending several conflicting submissions in a row, which may add to the confusion.

Check the new confirmation

When the corrected confirmation arrives, make sure it shows your actual address before you file it. If it is still wrong, contact the sender again with the incorrect and correct versions in one message.
