Tell a catalog customer number from an offer code
Catalog labels often carry several codes, and they do different jobs. A customer number points to your mailing record, while an offer code tracks a promotion. Copy what is printed and let the sender sort out which is which.
How to record the codes accurately
- Look for a printed label near each code, such as Cust No, Acct, Source, or Offer. Copy the code and its label exactly as they appear.
- If a code has no label, note where it sits on the piece, such as above the name or below the address block.
- Photograph the whole label so every printed code is readable, and make sure the sender's name or logo is in the frame. Submit the photo through Junk Mail Magic with the codes listed in your note.
- If you cannot tell which code is the customer number, say so in your note and ask the sender to identify the one that matches your record.
Why the choice of code matters
A customer number belongs to one mailing record. An offer code usually belongs to a promotion and may print on mail sent to many people, so quoting only that code may not lead the sender to your record. Some labels also carry source or key codes. List everything visible and let the sender decide which field applies. A customer number may not appear on every label, so do not assume one exists.
If the sender writes back
The sender may ask for clarification or may not find a record. If so, reply with any other codes visible on the label. For help preparing that reply, contact support at Junk Mail Magic support.
