Keep different postal preferences as a couple

Compare the names on the labels and decide together which catalogs each person wants to keep. Ask the sender how it handles a joint label before requesting a change that could affect both of you.

How to manage preferences

  1. Go through the advertising together and sort pieces into yours, theirs, and joint labels such as The Smiths.
  2. Each person decides which senders to stop for mail addressed to them and submits those requests.
  3. For a joint label, agree on the decision together before anyone submits, since the label names both of you.
  4. Write down senders either of you wants to keep so they stay out of future cleanup sessions.

What a joint label means

A label reading Kim and Alex Rivera or The Riveras shows how that sender addressed your household. A request prepared from it is not a guaranteed removal. If one of you wants a catalog stopped and the other wants it kept, talk it through before anyone submits.

Together on joint, separately on individual

That one distinction settles most of the sorting. For pieces addressed to one person, that person decides. For joint pieces, agree first. See the photo guide when you are ready to photograph.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?

Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
