How to Stop Guideposts Promotional Mail

Guideposts provides an opt-out route for newsletters and promotional materials. Ask specifically about postal promotions. A paid magazine, an order notice and an appeal from another organization are not the same mailing preference.

Write to the published opt-out contact

The Guideposts donor-site privacy policy gives CSInquiry@guideposts.org and PO Box 5815, Harlan, IA 51593-1315 for promotional opt-outs. Its email-footer unsubscribe is another route for email correspondence.

Describe the paper material you want stopped, not just the fact that you dislike junk mail. Include the name and address printed on it. If you are keeping a magazine, mention the title and say that the subscription should remain unchanged. Keep that instruction distinct from any request about future marketing.

Please stop Guideposts postal promotional materials for [printed name and full delivery address]. The mailing is [description] and shows [customer or mailing identifier, if available].

Please also record my preference not to share this information for third-party marketing, and explain any exclusions. Keep [subscription or order, if applicable] unchanged. Please confirm what this request covers.

A promotion is not a paid subscription

The public shopping FAQ lists Customer Care at 1-800-932-2145 for account and subscription questions. Use it if you cannot tell whether the piece is advertising, a delivery you ordered or an account notice.

Stopping promotional mail does not itself cancel a paid magazine or resolve a bill. Conversely, canceling a subscription is not a clear request to stop every promotional record. If you need both changes, ask for each outcome explicitly and retain the separate confirmations.

Understand the policy's timing and limits

The policy says opt-out choices may take 10 days to become effective, while information may continue to be shared for promotional purposes for up to 90 days. It notes that prepared mail and independently held third-party records can outlast a preference change. These are not promises that every envelope stops on day 10.

It also describes exceptions for specific information requests, operational or fulfillment purposes, licensees and co-branding participants. Ask which applies if a later mailing is not covered. Do not assume a promotional preference deletes transaction records or prevents necessary order messages.

Follow the new envelope, not an assumption

If another organization sends the next appeal, check its own official contact. Even if you suspect a shared list, sending that unrelated envelope to Guideposts may not reach the organization now holding the record.

For continuing Guideposts promotions, quote your original request date and the preference confirmation. Compare the label identifiers rather than resending every page of the material. A short message identifying the unresolved mailing is clearer than an attachment bundle containing payment details or private correspondence.

Does the envelope name someone else?

A Guideposts preference cannot change an unrelated sender's records. Photograph that unwanted piece with the sender and label readable. We prepare a request for that sender. Your first request is free.
