Run a short weekly catalog check

Compare the week's catalogs with your request log. Set aside senders you have already contacted and decide which new catalog, if any, you want to handle next.

Running the weekly check in four steps

  1. Pick a regular day and go through the catalogs and advertising mail that arrived since your last check.
  2. Compare each sender name with your list of past submissions and set aside only the ones that are not on it.
  3. Photograph each new sender so the name and your mailing label are readable, then submit one photo per mailer within your allowance.
  4. Add the new sender and the date to your list before you move on, so next week's check goes quickly.

Judge a sender by its label

Catalogs can change their cover art from one mailing to the next, so a familiar sender can look new. Go by the sender name on the label, not the cover. If a sender you already submitted arrives again, jot down the new arrival date and keep going. Timing varies by sender.

Building the habit

Add new request dates to the log before putting the catalogs away. If a previous sender appears again, compare its label with your saved details and check any processing estimate in the reply before following up.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?

Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
