Handle a sender directory entry that does not match

A directory search for a sender name can return several companies with similar names, or the same name in different regions. Choosing the closest result risks contacting the wrong company. Confirm the sender on the brand's own official website, and check the country too.

Steps when the directory result does not match your mailer

  1. Compare the directory result with the mailer, checking the full legal name, the country, and the type of business. A matching name in another country is a different company.
  2. Open the official website of the company named on your mailer, using any address printed on the piece, and check that the directory result agrees with what you find there.
  3. If you cannot match the directory entry to the mailer, do not send a request to that entry. Use the sender's official contact page instead.
  4. If the mailer prints no website and searches return several similar names, contact support at Junk Mail Magic support to help identify the sender before you submit.

The closest name may be the wrong company

A request sent to the wrong company does nothing for you and gives your address to a business that never mailed you. This is a particular risk with common brand names used by unrelated businesses in different states or countries. The sender's own site is the best place to check whether it operates in your country and offers a removal route that fits.

When to ask for help

If the mailer is unclear and directory results are ambiguous, contact support at Junk Mail Magic support before you submit. Getting the sender right on the first request is worth a short wait.
