Handle a neighbor's advertising in your mailbox
When advertising addressed to a neighbor lands in your mailbox, it is a delivery error. The right step is to send it back on its way, not to photograph or submit it.
What to do when the wrong advertising arrives
- Read the name and address. If the piece is addressed to a neighbor or a previous resident, do not open, photograph, or throw it away.
- Put it in an outgoing slot or hand it to your carrier for redelivery.
- If misdelivery keeps happening, ask your carrier or local post office about it.
- Use Junk Mail Magic only for advertising addressed to you, or mail you are authorized to handle.
A delivery error is a separate problem
A neighbor's piece usually reaches your box through a sorting or carrier mistake, not because a sender has your information. Submitting it would name the wrong recipient and send a request under someone else's name. Removal requests are for your own mail. If the piece is addressed to a previous resident of your unit, the related guides on previous-resident mail cover that case.
Return it and watch for repeats
Give the piece back to your carrier or leave it in the outgoing slot, marked as misdelivered. If it keeps arriving, the guide on previous-resident mail covers the recurring case.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?
Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
