Find a local advertiser when a flyer has few details
Start with the business name, the product or service, and any town or neighborhood printed on the flyer. Search for that business yourself instead of relying on a link, QR code or phone number on the piece. A postage permit or route marking shows how the flyer was mailed. It does not identify the advertiser, so use the advertised business to decide who to contact.
Confirm the advertiser
- Copy the business name exactly as printed, along with the product or service, any place names, and any slogan or logo text. Keep the flyer so you can check these details later.
- Search for the business name with the town or service area in a map app or business directory. Look for a listing that matches the name, the product and the location.
- If more than one listing fits, compare the services offered and the area each business covers. If you still can't tell which business sent the flyer, wait to send a request. A request to the wrong business won't reach the advertiser.
- When one listing clearly matches, find the contact method on that business's own website or listing. Ask whether it can stop sending mailed advertising to your address.
What to ask a route-based advertiser
According to USPS, Every Door Direct Mail is addressed by carrier route, so the sender doesn't need a list of individual names. That is why a flyer can arrive without your name on it. For a route-based mailing, give your street address in the request.
USPS's EDDM Retail instructions tell mailers to list addresses that asked to be removed in the Do Not Deliver Address column on the facing slips. Those instructions cover EDDM Retail only. You can ask the advertiser whether it uses that service, but don't assume it does. Ask about your own address only, so neighbors who want the flyer still receive it.

When no listing matches
Keep the flyer with your worksheet and don't contact a business you have only guessed at. If another flyer arrives, compare it with your notes. A new detail, such as a website or a street address, may be enough to confirm the business. Then send the request below.
