Help a parent with catalog preferences
A parent may welcome help with a stack of catalogs, or may prefer to manage them alone. Ask first. Find out which ones they want to keep, then handle only what they have asked you to take on.
How to help without taking over
- Go through the stack together and sort catalogs into keep, unsure, and stop.
- Write down the keep list and store it where you can both check it, since preferences can change.
- For catalogs they want stopped, show your parent the photo and the details before anything is submitted.
- Submit only the requests they have approved, and let them handle any they would rather do themselves.
Assumptions that cause trouble
A big stack can look unwanted, but some of it may be expected, some may be gifts, and some may be catalogs your parent has not read yet. Show them what you plan to submit and let them have the final word.
Make it a shared task
Going through the stack together once tells you more than guessing. After that, later requests go quickly. The guide at the photo guide explains what the label needs to show.

Have an unwanted advertisement ready?
Photograph one piece you are authorized to handle, with the sender and full mailing label visible. Review the details before submitting. The first request is free; the sender controls the response.
