Check an address printed on a reply card

A reply card tucked into promotional mail often has an address printed on it. That address may be where you send the card back, not the address the sender used to reach you. Check which it is before choosing a photo.

How to tell a mailing label from a return address

  1. Distinguish the address for returning a reply from the recipient name and address printed for delivery to you.
  2. Look for the outer envelope or delivery panel and keep it with the card.
  3. Photograph the original mailing only if the sender and full recipient label can appear clearly in one frame.
  4. If you have only the reply card, ask support whether it supplies enough information before submitting it.

Pre-filled cards

A pre-addressed reply card may show the company's address rather than yours. Read the labels beside each address block before using it as evidence of a mailing record. If you contact the company directly, say which part of the original mailing you still have and ask what details it needs to locate the record.

Next time

Photograph the outer envelope before you open promotional mail you plan to act on. Then you will not have to judge later whether a reply card is good enough.
