Stop Phone Book and Yellow Pages Delivery
Use the publisher printed on the directory, not a general junk-mail registry. Phone book delivery and the public listing of a phone number are separate issues.
Keep the front cover and publisher page until the request is complete. A Yellow Pages or White Pages directory may be left at every address in a delivery area without a personal mailing label. The publisher name, directory title, edition, and delivery address are the details that matter.
Use the directory delivery opt-out
- Identify the publisher. Check the cover, spine, first pages, and back cover for a publisher name or customer-service notice.
- Open the current directory opt-out site. Yellow Pages Opt Out lists participating publishers and provides a delivery-removal form.
- Enter the complete delivery address. Include the apartment, unit, building, or suite exactly as it should be excluded.
- Name the directory. Keep the title and edition available in case the form or publisher asks which book was delivered.
- Save the request date. If another book arrives, compare its publisher and edition before deciding the first request failed.
The older yellowpagesoptout.com address now redirects to optoutyp.com. Verizon's current White Pages information page still sends people to that directory opt-out route for unwanted print delivery.
Contact the publisher when it is listed separately
The opt-out site publishes direct instructions for some directory companies. Follow the route shown for the publisher named on your book. Do not assume that a request to one publisher covers every Yellow Pages, community directory, chamber guide, or local telephone book.
If the publisher is not listed, use the customer-service contact printed inside the directory. Ask to suppress the full address from future print-directory delivery. Give only the information needed to match the location, and keep the reply.
Delivery opt-out is not listing removal
Stopping the book prevents future print delivery when the publisher honors the address request. It does not necessarily remove a household or business telephone number from online search, directory assistance, caller ID, or a future directory listing.
If the problem is the publication of a name, address, or telephone number, contact the telephone provider or directory service that supplied the listing. Ask for its nonpublished, unlisted, correction, or privacy process. Do not use a delivery form and assume the underlying listing changed.
Apartment buildings and shared entrances
If directories are stacked in a lobby or mailroom rather than delivered to individual units, ask the property manager who approved or received the drop. The request may need to cover the building's delivery point instead of one apartment.
Photograph the publisher name and any delivery notice before the stack is recycled. A resident should not claim authority to opt out every unit without the property manager or association, since another resident may still want a copy.
If another directory appears
Compare the publisher, title, and delivery address with the original book. A second publisher needs its own request. A later edition from the same publisher may mean the delivery list was prepared before the opt-out or that the address was entered differently.
Send the publisher the original request date and the exact address for the new delivery. If the book was left at the wrong building, report the delivery error rather than submitting another household preference.
Where a photo helps
A useful photo shows the directory title and publisher. If the book arrived in a labeled wrapper, include a separate close photo of that label. Junk Mail Magic can use those details to prepare a request to the responsible publisher.
Do not photograph unrelated pages from inside the book. The cover, publisher notice, and delivery label are the evidence needed for this request. For other paper advertising, use the main U.S. junk mail guide to choose the correct route.
